ADIABATISCHES TRENNEN

ADIABATIC CUTTING
(HSIC – HIGH-SPEED-IMPACT-CUTTING)

When used in the context of HSIC, the term “adiabatic” (without any influence of heat) can be easily misinterpreted. As a general rule, “adiabatic cutting” refers to chipless cutting at high speed. And since the cutting time is extremely short, the material hardly has time to heat up in the cutting zone. This effectively prevents deformation or solidification. The benefit: smooth and level cutting surfaces almost without deformation or solidification on the workpiece edges Thanks to high cutting speeds, the components show much less signs of deformation, no relevant structural changes, as well as an even hardness distribution.

Adiabatic cutting is also the perfect choice for large annual quantities in the 500,000 to 500 million range. The advantages of this chipless and cooling lubricant-free process lie in its short cycle times (up to 800 parts per minute). This cutting technology is suitable for machining almost all types of steel, including high-alloy and high-strength variants. Dazu zählen auch hochlegierte und hochfeste Varianten. Various profile and circular materials can be used as basic materials.

Key facts and figures

Processing
Today, we can machine cross sections of up to 4cm (profile or round materials). Furthermore, we can realise even larger diameters in co-operation with our partners.

Basic materials
Bar- or ring-shaped materials

Raw materials
All kinds of metals. We prefer to use high-alloy or high-strength steels.

Cycle times
Up to 800 parts per minute! (depending on the individual requirement, part length and raw material)

Profitable annual quantities
From approximately 500,000 to 100 million parts

Cutting lengths
From 5 to 120 mm

Advantages

High output
Short cycle times – 800 parts per minute

Minimal material losst
Chipless working process

Almost burr-free cut
Further processing of parts without previous deburring/vibratory grinding

High processing speeds
Minimal retraction and excellent evenness of the cut surface, usually no relevant strength changes on the cut surface

Cutting
Without cooling lubricant and chips
